On 4th and 5th February 2019, the 1st German Cancer Research Congress / 1. Deutsche KrebsForschungsKongress will be held in Heidelberg, to showcase cancer research in Germany.

The congress is organized jointly by the German Cancer Society (DKG), German Cancer Aid (DKH), the Netzwerk der Onkologischen Spitzenzentren (CCC-Netzwerk, network of top oncology centers), the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), the National Centers for Tumor Diseases (NCT), and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). This new format offers cancer researchers an attractive platform to present excellent research, to network, to exchange ideas and to establish collaborations.

The congress will include talks on the topics "Prevention and Early Detection", "Tumor Immunology and Immunotherapy", "Personalized Oncology" and "Imaging", as well as selected project meetings of research groups.

Additionally, a keynote session will mark the start of World Cancer Day on 4th February 2019 by addressing public perception and politics, to emphasize the societal consequences of cancer and the significance of oncological research. A special guest during the opening ceremony will be speeches by Anja Karliczek, German Minister of Education and Research, and Theresia Bauer, State Minister of Baden-Wuerttemberg for Sciences, Research and Arts.
