Internet access with "eduroam"

Eduroam is a worldwide bond of university and research networks. It enables its members in many parts of the world, especially in Europe, to easily access the Internet via WLAN using their personal user ID. The WLAN identifier (SSID) is uniformly called "eduroam".

Eduroam is available in about 200 facilities in Germany alone, and the trend is rising.

An overview, as well as lists of the affiliated locations, are available under the following link for Germany, Europe, Canada and the USA. However, these lists do not include all locations where Eduroam is available:

Users of iPhone, iPad and Android devices can also use the "Eduroam Companion" app to find Eduroam locations. This app can be found in the respective app stores. However, the DKFZ does not support "Eduroam Companion" or Android devices in general.

If you see the SSID "eduroam", you can log in with your user ID (to log in to Active Directory):
This is not your email address! Please note that or is written in small letters.

Please note that you will be asked to change the password of your user ID at regular intervals. You must then also change this password on your mobile device.

The WLAN infrastructure of the DKFZ is also available to members of the Eduroam network of institutions listed above. These users enter their user ID and their domain after the "@".
Eduroam provides a high degree of security. The password is secured with current encryption mechanisms before it is transmitted.

Who can use Eduroam?

Eduroam can be used by any user who has been authenticated by their home institution.
Any member of the DKFZ who has a normal user ID is automatically activated for Eduroam.

Access to the DKFZ Intranet

The "Eduroam" service only gives you access to the Internet. Access to the DKFZ intranet is only possible if you establish a VPN connection. The configuration of the VPN access on your computer can be found in the Intranet in the ITCF Wiki.
