Team Philosophy
More than the sum of its parts.
Our division strongly believes in teamwork – not as an abstract ideal, but as a lived reality every day. Members of our division are involved in projects beside their own, making our group a strong network where everyone benefits from skills and talents that complement each other. This approach to research is reflected by our commitment to larger 'moonshot' projects, towards which different individual projects synergize, and the co-authorships our members acquire during their time in our division. Beyond work, we live our team spirit in regular social activities like outings, and in a fun annual retreat.
The best possible science...
Another core aspect of our team philosophy is our commitment to excellence in everything we do. Our aim is to not only attain the highest quality of science in our division, but also lead the way in improving research quality across our field and determine and spread best practices to wherever they are needed. Accordingly, one of our research foci lies in conducting meta research on the quality of science in our field. Being well-connected internationally and in the most important societies in our field not only means we are in a prime position to do so, but also that you'll have lots of opportunity to make international connections while working here!
All work and no play?
Life in our division is not all work and no play. A further aspect of our team philosophy is a focus on being all-rounded individuals. We exercise our creativity both during work (like in the infamous annual IMSY Creativity Challenge) and in our free time. Members of our team include sudoku champions, beekeepers, DJs, rock climbers, singers, lifeguards, novelists, sailors, violinists, wildlife filmmakers, painters and....well, what is YOUR passion? Up to you to add it to the list! If you don't think you have one, don't worry. We believe that everyone has a hidden superpower – and we're certain that working with us provides the perfect opportunity to discover and unleash it!
