Prof. Dr. Alfred Michael Franz is researching in the fields of computer-assisted interventions (CAI), image-guided therapy (IGT) and the application of artificial intelligence for medical interventions for many years. He completed his PhD at the DKFZ in 2015 on workflow-integrated electromagnetic tracking for navigated ultrasound-guided interventions and then worked as a PostDoc in the field of computer-assistance for surgery and interventional radiology. In 2017, he became a professor of medical informatics at Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU). In addition to teaching, his academic duties as a professor also include active research, which is why he continues to work on research projects as a scientist in the division Intelligent Medical Systems (IMSY). His current research focus is on navigated percutaneous, endoscopic and catheter-based interventions. In his projects, he is interested in linking research and teaching and offers frequent opportunities for students to participate in research as part of project work or theses.
