The unit has two highly equipped and functional instruments, a 600 MHz NMR spectrometer and a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer. The latest experiments are available on both instruments utilizing adiabatic and soft-shaped pulses and field gradient technology.

600 MHz spectrometer

The 600 MHz NMR instrument is an Avance series spectrometer from Bruker. The spectrometer is equipped with a range of probeheads (5 altogether) and has a shielded magnet. The spectrometer has available four channels and triple-axis gradient capability. Probeheads:

  1. TBI, 5-mm 1H,13C/X triple-resonance probe with triple-axis gradient;
  2. microTBI, 2.5-mm 1H,13C/X triple-resonance probe with triple-axis gradient;
  3. QNP, 5-mm 13C,19F/1H dual probe with single-axis z gradient;
  4. 31P, 8-mm 31P,13C/1H triple-resonance probe with single-axis gradient;
  5. MAS, 4.2-mm X/1H probe for solid-state NMR studies; and
  6. dedicated diffusion probe and enhanced gradient amplifier (60 A).

where X = nuclei  19F - 109Ag..., all with {1H} decoupling option (and conversely).

Typically, more advanced studies are conducted on this instrument.

400 MHz spectrometer

The 400 MHz NMR instrument is an Avance III series spectrometer from Bruker. The spectrometer has available three channels and single-axis gradient capability. It is equipped with a 5-mm BBO (X/1H) dual probehead with z-axis gradient and autotune function. The probehead is capable of observing nuclei in the range 19F - 109Ag..., all with {1H} decoupling option (and conversely). The magnet is doubly shielded.

This instrument is typically used for the acquisition of routine analyses.

 

The latest experiments are available on both instruments utilizing adiabatic and soft-shaped pulses and field gradient technology. Both instruments run under Topspin 2.1 software and for both instruments, shim adjustment is normally controlled by the Topshim utility.
