Dr. Susan Kentner
Dr. Susan Kentner is Acting Head of the DKFZ Grants Office with special responsibility for advising scientists on EU and international funding programs. A native of Chicago, Illinois, USA, Susan has degrees in Romance Languages, Linguistics and Literature from institutions in the USA and France and a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Chicago. After more than 20 years' experience in medical and scientific publishing, including stints with Springer-Verlag in Heidelberg, VCH-Wiley in Weinheim and 12 years as managing director of her own medical publishing company Palatium Verlag, she joined the DKFZ in 2002 and was seconded to the Brussels Office of the Helmholtz Association as the Scientific Officer for the Helmholtz Research Area Health. In 2005, Susan became Director of the Helmholtz Office in Brussels, where she remained until June 2014. Susan also has a record as a successful trainer in communication skills and has taught workshops and lectured on subjects relating to research management in health and life sciences, EU affairs and European collaboration opportunities.
