Continued Medical Education
The Division of Radiology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is deeply committed to the training and continuing education of physicians. In addition to its own training positions for resident physicians, numerous rotators from the Department of Radiology at Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) also complete parts of their training at the DKFZ.
A particular focus is placed on oncological imaging. The training covers modern techniques such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, as well as PET/MR and PET/CT, and provides in-depth knowledge in the diagnosis and monitoring of tumor diseases.
The training is complemented by a broad academic program: regular case conferences, journal clubs, and scientific lectures promote professional exchange and continuous professional development.
The physicians in E010 are integrated into the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University and pursue academic careers ranging from the Ph.D. through the habilitation to an adjunct professorship. For physicians with a particular interest in science, the DKFZ offers optimal conditions for specifically deepening research skills.
In addition, department staff are actively involved in teaching at Heidelberg University’s Faculty of Medicine. The lecturer for the Division of Radiology is Prof. David Bonekamp, who, together with PD Dr. Zschäbitz, leads the elective track at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg. He is also responsible for the image processing component of the “Digital Medicine” elective track.
The DKFZ offers students the opportunity to complete clinical rotations. In addition, doctoral theses are regularly assigned by the department’s various research groups.
