HIRO and OncoRay Lecture Series "Radiation Research in Oncology"
Radiation research and radiooncology are highly interdisciplinary fields, involving close cooperation between experts in medicine, biology, physics, engineering and computer science. These disciplines are brought together within the National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology (NCRO).
Introduction
A central aim is to train junior scientists in interdisciplinary research by equipping them with essential prerequisites for productive scientific cooperation: effective communication between researchers and a solid understanding of the research field.
The lecture series "Radiation Research in Oncology" aims to address these goals with a total of 18 talks over the course of 2 years (9 lectures per year). The talks are given by lecturers from Heidelberg or Dresden and can also be attended at the partner site via a live video stream. The lectures are designed for a broad audience with the goal of providing an overview of a wide range of topics relevant to radiooncological research, including in the fields of medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, and technology.
Talks in this lecture series are open to anyone who is interested, but are particularly aimed at PhD students at DKFZ. Please note: the lecture series is not open to the public. Only members of HIRO, OncoRay, or other DKTK institutes can participate.
Further information
The lecture series is held exclusively online via Zoom. All DKFZ employees will receive the required login credentials automatically via email.
For PhD Students at DKFZ:
Please note: This lecture series does not replace the Progress in Cancer Research (PiCR) lecture series.
Starting in October 2026, all PhD students can earn 0.1 credit points per attended lecture. A maximum of 0.9 credit points can be accumulated from October to June each year. There is no minimum attendance requirement for earning these credit points.
In June, PhD students will receive their credit point confirmation via email. They must also ensure their attendance is registered in the DKFZ Training Portal.
For Colleagues from Other HIRO or DKTK Partner Institutes:
Interested colleagues from other partner institutes of HIRO or DKTK should contact Anna Moshanina (a.moshanina(at)dkfz-heidelberg.de) or Marcel Schäfer (marcel.schaefer(at)dkfz-heidelberg.de) for further information. Please use your official institutional email address when registering. Requests submitted via personal email addresses (e.g., @gmail.com, @outlook.com) cannot be accepted.
