Heidelberg Institute for ­Radiation Oncology (HIRO)

The Heidelberg Institute for Radiation Oncology (HIRO) is a joint initiative between of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the University Hospital Heidelberg, the Medical Faculty Heidelberg of Heidelberg University and the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center (HIT). It represents the Heidelberg side in the National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology (NCRO).

The aim of the HIRO is to improve the therapy of cancer through a physically and biologically optimized radiotherapy. To this end, the HIRO covers the entire chain from basic research through the conduct of clinical studies to clinical care and includes all aspects of radiooncology, radiation physics, medical informatics and radiation biology.
