Berçin Yildiran - PHD Student

Berçin is currently doing her PhD in the Frye Lab, where she studies how m6A, one of the most abundant mRNA modifications, influences melanoma and anti-tumour immunity.

She focuses on m6A reader proteins, which recognise modified RNA and can influence gene expression in tumour cells. Alterations in these proteins have been linked to cancer progression and tumour growth. Berçin wants to know how m6A readers affect melanoma progression and the interaction between cancer cells and the tumour microenvironment, with the aim of identifying RNA-regulatory processes that could potentially be targeted to improve immunotherapy.
