The division had been active also in the area of Molecular Epidemiology. Research was about cancer genetics and epigenetics with a focus on melanoma and breast cancer. Detecting variations through genotyping or sequencing genomic DNA of primary tumours was utilised to identify patients at risk of developing advanced disease. This work was performed by two subgroups headed by Ute Hamann (breast cancer) and Rajiv Kumar (melanoma). Both have left recently and their experimental activities have ceased.
