Computer Assisted Medical Interventions


Research Engineer



Ihre Aufgaben:

The Division of Computer Assisted Medical Interventions focusses on research and development of processes and systems supporting clinical diagnosis and therapy. Medical imaging, machine learning, semantic modeling, biophotonics and image-based navigation rank among the main research topics.

Within the context of the BMBF-VIP+ funded translational project "EchoTrack - Ultraschall-Navigation für perkutane Nadelinsertionen" the candidate will be working in an interdisciplinary team to develop a navigation system for ultrasound-guided needle insertions. Building on previous work, the candidate will design and implement individual components (both hardware and algorithms) to allow for a robust combination of ultrasound imaging and electromagnetic tracking. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with clinical partners and members of the medical engineering group at DKFZ.

Tasks include:
• Requirement analysis in collaboration with clinical end users
• Concept and design of a device to combine electromagnetic tracking with ultrasound probes
• Concept and design of a device to calibrate electromagnetic tracking and ultrasound imaging
• Prototyping and refinement of components
• Construction and implementation of the final system

Ihr Profil:

• M. Sc. Degree in Medical / Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science
• Background in medical engineering, medical informatics
• Knowledge in algorithm design
• Programming skills (C++)
• Teamplayer, self-motivated personality
• Fluent in German and/or English
