Thank you and Good bye!

During the last week of Sep. 2022, we could host the attendance phase and Live Online Phase with all participants from around the globe. Ca. 22 participants attended via Zoom, 24 participants were in Heidelberg for all lectures and sessions.

As local organizing team, we were very happy to welcome such a nice audience online as well as in Heidelberg and we wish everyone all the best for their professional career. We look forward to our next summer school in Medical Physics!

After three very successful summer schools in Medical Physics on different topics since 2017 (see www.dkfz.de/medphys_edu), we are very happy to announce our 4th Summer School in Medical Physics about Radiobiology and Radiobiological Modelling for Radiotherapiy, to be held in September 2022. The course is organized under the auspices of the Heidelberg Institute of Radiation Oncology (HIRO) in close cooperation with our partners (see below).

The course is subdivided in an online phase of about four weeks and an attendance phase of one week, following the hybrid mode, so all sessions of the attendance phase are additionally available online as Live Online Phase via Zoom. Thus, participants can decide to follow the course online and on-site or 100% virtually.

During the online phase, the biological background, biological modelling and the dose-volume effects will be introduced. The attendance phase or Live Online Phase will deepen the knowledge on high-LET radiation and hypoxia and the impact of oxygen. Furthermore, devices for small animal imaging and irradiation as well as special techniques such as FLASH and Mini Beam Radiotherapy will be discussed.

National and international speakers from The Netherlands, France and Denmark contribute to our course to offer interesting sessions and discussions.

Participation is free of charge, but limited. We are happy to receive your application!

Please feel free to download and share our flyer to tell your colleagues!

Description of Online Phase

Our summer school starts with an online phase of about four weeks. During this period, participants get access to the virtual learning platform Moodle which provides all learning materials such as pre-recorded video lectures and lecture notes as PDFs and further short tasks. Furthermore, mandatory Live Online Sessions via Zoom with experts from Heidelberg and other international experts are scheduled within this online phase (days and times see program).

The online phase is terminated by the first mandatory online test consisting of Multiple-Choice questions about all topics taught during the online phase. The test can be done during the last two weeks of the online phase whenever participants have time and its successful completion (50% of points indicated) is a prerequisite to participate in the attendance phase or the Live Online Phase.

Please also download and read our technical requirements to attend our virtual summer school.

The attendance phase in Heidelberg is scheduled at two venues (see "Venue"). The whole attendance phase is also available as Live Online Phase to those who attend online only!

Lectures by our national and interantional experts are scheduled during the morning sessions. Interactive sessions like Journal Club, Pro-Contra-Discussions, Panel Discussions and interactive Discussion Rounds take place during the afternoon to strengthen active participation and to initiate scientific exchange between experts and participants.

The whole summer school is terminated by the 2nd online test about all topics taught during the attendance phase or Live Online Phase (duration see "Dates and Program").

Our networking activities such as Get Together, Guided Tours (e.g. to the new building "Imaging and Radiology" at the DKFZ or to the Heidelberg University Hospital) or Dinner are only available to on-site participants.

Once the application is accepted, on-site participants will get a code to book a room at special rates in a hotel in Heidelberg.
