Dietary habits

Epidemiologic findings in recent years also make it increasingly apparent that dietary habits play a significant role. The overall significance of diet in cancer etiology is comparable to that of smoking, as it is estimated that 20%-42% of cancers are diet-associated. Diet has been linked to numerous types of cancer, particularly malignant tumors of the stomach and bowel as well as tumors of the oral cavity, esophagus, larynx, and pancreas; diet is probably also a factor in cancers of the breast and pancreas (Willett 1995).
