Ihre Aufgaben:

The Division of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow at the interface of Cancer Imaging and Radiation Treatment. In a proof-of-concept study, the possibilities of personalization of radiation treatment planning by incorporation of combined PSMA-PET/MR-data will be explored. An accurate and precise localization as well as the characterization of the dominant intraprostatic lesion is aimed at, and a potential detection of afore unknown metastases is envisioned.

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with interest in working on:
- The evaluation of the geometric accuracy of PSMA-PET/MR-data: (1) Development of a modified anthropomorphic pelvis phantom suitable for MRI- and radioisotope-studies; (2) Investigation of ist dependence on the diagnostic anatomical and functional MR-sequences and on the diagnostic PET-isotope (Fluorine-18, Gallium-68) applied.
- The optimization of scan protocols according to the results of the phantom-measurements.
- The development of immobilization tools for highly reproducible patient positioning on the PET/MR scanner and the radiation treatment couch.
- An in-silico treatment planning study which estimates the feasibility of boosting the dominant intraprostatic lesion(s) according to PSMA-PET/MR taking into account avoidance of excess risk of toxicity.

The team of scientists and clinicians who collaborate on this project is multidisciplinary and consists of members of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg (Klinik für Radioonkologie), the NCT Dresden (Klinik und Poliklinik für Strahlentherapie und Radioonkologie, Klinik und Poliklinik für Nuklearmedizin, Institut für Radiologische Diagnostik), the HZDR Dresden (Institut für Radioonkologie - OncoRay), and the DKFZ Heidelberg (Radiologie, Medizinische Physik in der Strahlentherapie, Medizinische Physik in der Radiologie, Radiopharmazie). The successful candidate will be expected to travel to the partner sites in Dresden for research visits.

Ihr Profil:

Candidates should have proven their ability to independent scientific work by completion of a PhD degree in physics, engineering, or an allied scientific or technical field. You should be capable of and motivated to pursue more practical work as it will be required for phantom development and testing as well as for immobilization and positioning considerations; you should also possess good oral and written language skills in both German (ideal) and English (mandatory). It is intended that project results be presented at international conferences and published in high-impact journals. Motivation and team-work combined with excellent communication skills are expected.

Experience in the following areas is highly desirable:
- Radiation treatment planning, workflows and physics
- MR physics and application
- Nuclear medicine physics and application, hybrid PET imaging
- Scientific programming (C/C++, MATLAB, etc.)
