Cell Plasticity and Epigenetic Remodeling

PhD Student

Ihre Aufgaben:

The Helmholtz University group “Cell plasticity and Epigenetic Remodeling” (Head: Dr. Darjus Tschaharganeh) is seeking for highly motivated and ambitious PhD candidates. The project aims to investigate the role of somatic copy number alterations (SCNAs) in cancer.

Our research group is a newly established and excellent group of scientists located at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and Institute of Pathology at the University Hospital Heidelberg. We have strong expertise in applying functional-genomics technologies to murine cancer models to investigate genetic and epigenetic changes, which drive cancer. The central goal of the project is to discover the role of somatic copy number alterations (SCNAs) in cancer using powerful mouse models in vivo and subsequently identification of potential vulnerabilities created by SCNAs for therapeutic target discovery. To this end the PhD student will use unique mouse model systems based on CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing and Tet-regulatable shRNA transgenic mouse strains as well as CRISPR/Cas9-based pooled library screens to dissect the role of SCNAs in cancer.

Ihr Profil:

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious PhD candidate, who wants to pursue research projects with creativity, independence and team spirit. Interests in techniques such as pooled library screens, mouse models of cancer or molecular biology are required. A FELASA-B certificate would be desirable. The applicant should work efficiently, be highly self-motivated and accurate. Excellent written and oral capabilities in English are essential. The candidate will be enrolled in the DKFZ International PhD program ( If you are interested, please submit a cover letter, your CV, publication list, university degrees, contact details for at least two references in one pdf.
