Work and Family

Combining work and family is not always easy. Flexible working hours make things much easier. To help parents concentrate on their work during the day and be sure that their children are taken good care of, we offer a comprehensive childcare program in collaboration with the day-care centers “Die Wichtel” and "Glückskinder". In addition, a mentoring program for young women scientists and specially established reentry positions help to allow optimum career development for women with children and facilitate their entry into leadership positions.

In 2005, the German Cancer Research Center already subjected itself to the audit “Work and Family” and was awarded the basic certificate. The non-profit organization “berufundfamilie GmbH” established by the Hertie Foundation awards the certificate to employers who pursue a sustainable human resources policy which is particularly family friendly. “Work and Family” is a long-term auditing process which comprises annual reports and re-audits after three years to assess whether envisioned goals have been achieved. In June 2009, German Family Minister Ursula von der Leyen presented the renewed certificate “Work and Family” to DKFZ in Berlin.
