The Advisory Council

A circle of outstanding personalities in economics, politics and the public sphere forms the Advisory Council of the German Cancer Research Center.

Members of the council are Prof. Dr. h.c. Roland Berger, Honorary Chairman of the Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Dr. Manfred Bischoff, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Daimler AG, Wolfgang Clement, former Federal Minister of Economy and Governor, Dr. Michael Endres, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the non-profit Hertie Foundation, Albrecht Hornbach, Chief Executive of HORNBACH Holding AG, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Huber, former Chairman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Prof. Dr. Klaus Mangold, Chairman of Mangold Consulting GmbH, Dr. Arend Oetker, Managing Director of Dr. Arend Oetker Holding GmbH, Bernhard Schadeberg, executive manager of Krombacher Brewery, Annette Schavan, German Ambassador to The Holy See and former Federal Minister of Education and Research, former Federal Chancellor Dr. h.c. Prof. Roland Berger chairs the Advisory Council.

The members of the Advisory Council consider themselves ambassadors of the German Cancer Research Center. They come together regularly and meet up with the Managing Board and scientists of the Center. They inform themselves of the current research projects and infrastructural activities and discuss comprehensive strategic questions. With their vast sum of experience they are able to provide a wealth of advice in support of the Cancer Research Center, and take full advantage of their contacts to build vital relationships. The members of the Advisory Council also make it their goal to tap new resources.

In May 2011 the Advisory Council founded the registered association “Friends of the German Cancer Center”. Ulrike Thümmel was elected as the First Chairperson, Albrecht Hornbach as the Second Chairperson, and Caspar Seemann as treasurer. The purpose of the registered association according to the statute is as follows: “the acquisition and passing on of funds for the promotion of science and research through the German Cancer Research Center.”
