David studied in the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree (Major in Chemistry, Minor in German Studies). There, he served as assistant instructor in the Department of Chemistry and finished his Master's degree focusing on Biochemistry. For this he worked on the "Characterization and Kinetics of a 31.8kDa Glucoside-active Glycosyl Hydrolase from Ginger Rhizome" under the supervision of Dr. Nina Rosario L. Rojas.
In May 2009, David joined the DKFZ as a Ph.D. student focusing on the redox regulation of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH).
