Mechanisms of Tumor microenvironment interactions

Tumor cells and different cell types forming the 'tumor microenvironment' impact on one another by sending and receiving stimuli that are either in favor or act against tumor progression. We have previously performed a screen for miRNAs regulating NF-KB and TGF-beta signaling in breast cancer cells (Keklikoglou 2012), and identified mechanisms that are now followed in order to analyze the impact of breast cancer cells on cancer associated fibroblasts.
Along these lines, we have an on-going collaboration, within the DKFZ-MOST program, with the University Tel-Aviv, where we study the interplay of breast tumor and particular cell types of the stromal compartment.
