Postdoc position

We are searching for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the influence of metabolic and psychosocial stress on cell communication in the stem cell niche. The approach involves mouse models of metabolic/neurogenic stress, primary stem/stromal cell isolation and microfluidics cell culture, microscopy and metabolic cell-based assays.

Masters thesis

Lipid signaling in adipose tissue stem cells and metabolism.

We are searching for a highly motivated masters student for the following project.

Previous work has revealed intriguing changes in defined metabolic pathways of sphingolipids in adipose tissue under conditions of metabolic stress. The aim of this project is to dissect the signaling and metabolic effects of these changes in adipose tissue stem cells and adipocytes. To achieve this, the student will manipulate sphingolipid metabolism and signaling pharmacologically and by RNAi, and investigate the consequences for cell function including stem cell differentiation, apoptosis, as well as lipid and carbohydrate metabolism.

Methodology: Primary cell isolation and culture, RNA expression, FACS, cell metabolism assays, lipid analysis.
