Medical Systems Biology of Chronic Wounds
Table of Contents
Introduction
Approximately 1.5%-3% of the population suffers from persistent and clinically relevant defects in wound closure and re-epithelialization, known as chronic wounds. There is a strong need for time dynamic treatment strategy including opposing and antagonizing growth factors added to the local milieu to improve growth factor therapy of patients suffering from chronic wounds. MedSys chronic wounds is an interdisciplinary consortium connecting basic research and cell biology, medicine, informatics and industry. Our vision is to unravel the multi-factorial process of cutaneous wound healing by a innovative systems biological approach. The understanding of this highly dynamic and complex process will provide clinicians with novel strategies for the therapy of chronic wounds.
