Dancing colors in the cell nucleus: computer simulations show the movement of the genetic material during cell division
Modern methods of analyzing complete sets of genes (genomes) or proteins (proteomes) are producing vast amounts of data that are no longer manageable by human manpower alone. Our division is developing computer-assisted methods for interpreting complex genomic data as well as methods for modeling and simulating biological processes. While in the past few years most bioinformatic methods were used for analyzing gene sequences, their chief purpose now is to uncover the interconnections between the higher organization of the genome and its manifold functions. The aim is to attain a comprehensive understanding of complex biological processes.
