Heinrich F.C. Behr stipends for medical students under the patronage of DKFZ and the Medical Faculty Heidelberg

Cancer research is in an interesting phase of change. Starting from excellent basic science it is increasingly possible to translate research results from the bench to the bedside. Both, high scientific quality and medical knowledge is necessary for this great task. More than ever, physicians are needed who choose a scientific career.
To bring talented, young colleagues to cancer research at an early stage of their career, the Heinrich F.C. Behr Foundation offers stipends for extraordinary qualified medical students. The aim is to allow medical students the possibility to retreat from the medical study program for a MD thesis in a reputed DKFZ laboratory. The holders of stipends are granted to leave from their study program for one year and obtain a 12-month-stipend according to the BAFöG guidelines. Additional support for travel expenses to present own research results on a scientific conference is possible.
Up to two Heinrich F.C. Behr stipends can be awarded per year. Proposals with a short project outline (max 5 pages) written by the applicant, a statement of the super visor, and CV should be sent to the chairman of the Management Board of DKFZ, Prof. Otmar D. Wiestler, by September 31st, 2008 latest. The steering committee of the Heinrich F.C. Behr Foundation decides on the granting of the stipends
